Hello friends and family,
First and foremost I would like to say thank you! Thank you for all of the unwavering support you all have given me these two decades of being an attorney. So many of you have helped me and my career would not have been possible without your support in analyzing cases or even staying up with me to figure out how to approach a case. All of you have shown up for me in countless ways, even during this past year which was filled with many trials and tribulations. For that, I am eternally thankful.
During the transitional time of 2020, I was challenged with understanding how so many leaders were not prepared for a global pandemic and the impact of that in many communities. When hard times arise and there are seemingly no positive outcomes, a person is inclined to make whatever decision they believe will provide them with more choices and a better financial outcome. When desperate times call for desperate measures, the ability to think rationally can betypically impaired. As an African-American man, it has been difficult seeing the system work against people of color in our community. This difficulty cuts even closer to home as I raise my son.
Over the past two years, I have recognized some serious flaws in the criminal justice system. Now that we are in a pandemic, there are some days that I am not able to defend my clients properly because there are fewer trials taking place and mass incarceration has become such a substantial problem in Philadelphia. Thinking over the last 2 years specifically, I went from spending many hours in one courtroom only to help my one client, to be in 2020 where some days I’m not even able to defend my clients properly because of the lessened trials. I decided to become an attorney so that I could defend the people in my community. After realizing that I wasn’t satisfied with my level of work in this city and assisting on a one-on-one basis anymore I realized I had to perform in a different capacity. I am so excited to share with you all that I will be running for judge in the 2021 democratic primary!
Your unwavering support has meant so much to me throughout my career and has been especially comforting. In the next few days, you will be hearing from members of my team regarding the different ways that you can support my campaign throughout this process so please stay tuned. Continue to stay safe, and thank you for all your time and consideration.
